Dueling Pianos
The “dueling piano sing-a-long” concept had its modern origins at Pat O’Brien’s in New Orleans. The styles of choice were Dixieland, 40’s, and 50’s music. The true roots surely go back further than that because as long as there has been at least one person to lead a song, there has almost always been someone to sing along. Modern day Dueling Pianos is the evolution of this deceptively simple idea, smartly packaged for the new Millennium. In many states, dueling piano clubs are open seven nights per week, with maximum attendance on weekends. This interactive concept has grown rapidly in the past few years and has shown no sign of letting up. Why? One very simple reason, people love to interact and especially have fun.
The focal point of all this fun is a pair of grand pianos on stage. The piano players are the ring masters – they run the show. Known as the Entertainment Directors, they are responsible for maintaining the enthusiasm that keeps the concept fresh. Hand-picked from only the finest regional talent, they are thoroughly trained and motivated to keep the audience happy, developing fresh new routines around familiar songs.
A Dueling Piano show may include bringing the wait staff up on the pianos for a Showtime, or bringing up a whole party for The Unicorn Song, or some other interactive skit. Depending on the amount of pianists working on any given night, the piano players may all get up on stage at one time and form a band or 4-Way, jamming and showing off their abilities to play other instruments.
So who are the fans of this interactive concept? For starters, they are of all ages. Although there are many regulars who frequent the same clubs, you will never find exactly the same people at many of these establishments on any given night. You may see traveling business people and conventioneers in search of local color. You will see singles and couples. Many people find the venue perfect for birthdays, anniversaries, conventions, bachelor, and bachelorette parties.
Not only is this the newest craze in nightclub entertainment, but this concept is especially great for receptions, holiday parties and corporate events. Everyone is drawn together by the camaraderie and nostalgia to form one large, synergistic party, swaying to the music, bellowing out familiar lyrics. This concept bases itself on the simple fact that everyone wants to have a good time.
The Dueling Piano “experience” is not only incredible fun, it is also very unique. The guests are not just entertained by the piano players; they become part of the show!
1920’s Theme
It’s the Roaring 20’s where gangsters ruled the day. Fully illuminated classic cars from the era greet your guests as they attempt to gain entrance through the burly doorman with the “secret password”. Once inside, you are transported to the days of Capone and the Untouchables. Select one of the whisky barrel tables adorned with checkered table cloths and wine bottle candle holders as you settle in for the night. Step up to the bar for some classic bathtub gin served in old coffee cups and take your chance at the tables. It’s all legal at your very own Blind Pig!
Club Tropicana or A Night in Rio
A passionate tropical night awaits your guests and the excitement builds as they approach the entrance replete with skylights in the night and a handsome doorman announces your entrance. Once inside, it’s all about the music. A Latin Jazz ensemble begins the evening while strolling cigarette girls offer the classic Latin nightclub fare of candy, cigarettes, chocolate, cigars and mints. The room is fully dressed in artificial palms, large urns of artificial exotic fruits and decorations, and a fully realized bandstand with the pulse of classic Latin music emanating throughout the night. You’ll see showgirls perform in extravagant costumes. Dancers perform classic dances such as the Salsa, Mambo, and Tango and lead your guests in a Conga line throughout the venue. If you’re thirsty, indulge yourself with a Mojito and other exotic drinks, with or without alcohol. Feast on fresh fruits and cheese, flan, tres leche and other Latin favorites. Step behind the bandstand and take a keepsake photo. Finally as the evening draws to a close, a gentleman rolling cigars appears near the exit doors where guests can take a cigar as a parting gift.
Murder Mystery Production
Guess “whodunit” from a select group of professional actors who mingle with your audience. The actors set the stage for a murder where participants follow the clues, deduce the motive . . . and catch the culprit. The script is custom tailored to a theme if you wish. Our actors remain in character throughout the event. Once the murder takes place (imagine a body falling at someone’s feet!), the audience becomes actively involved in the investigation and solving the crime.
Your guests also become suspects as our detective questions them. The audience is divided into teams to solve the crime themselves. You may wish to offer a reward to the team that correctly deduces “Whodunit”.
We develop the full story. We suggest the Mystery last about 3 hours unless it is a weekend hotel package. We can produce the event from three to eight weeks, depending on the plot. We have the Mystery to match your needs. Cost will depend on: number of guests, complexity of scripting and if extensive costumes or props are involved.
